I recently bought al AEC Tanker, the Lucas version, on our local auction site, I already had one but the price on this was too good to pass up.

Interestingly there a couple of variations between the two I have. Headlights - Jewelled and unjewelled, I assumed this model was a short run so am surprised with this variation.

A great acquisition and a very interesting one at that too. Its condition is fabulous. Knowing very little about this late issue, I am unsure which is the usual version, with or without jewelled headlights and the tank being the same colour as the rest of the chassis, but I am sure there is an expert out there who can provide the answer! Congratulations though on a fantastic addition to your collection!! Kind Regards Bruce (150) #692 4 July 2015

That's a beauty that is Dave! Lovely condition on both. I'm going to add another variation now, mine has painted headlamps with the brown tank. So, we now have... Painted Headlamps Olive Tank Painted Headlamps Brown Tank Jeweled Headlamps Brown Tank Any more? Does this one need it's own tread now? Chris Warr.

Chris Thanks for the added details. It would be nice if we could see an image of your example that can be added here. I am sure the new website will have a spot for the 945 AEC Tanker 'Lucas Oil, but in the meantime, a new Thread should be created. You realize that if nobody has done so yet, my homework could very well be going through all my auction catalogues and see which version is more common than the others!! Kind regards Bruce (150) #694 5 July 2015

I have a painted headlamps/brown tank example too. I always thought jewelled headlights were a thing of the past on the AEC Tanker before the Lucas Oil version was even released! So, this is quite a find and is likely to be the rarest version.

Yes, on the new site there are two threads for the 945; one for ESSO and one for Lucas Oil Dave

This afternoon this new addition came in, the French no. 34b Plateau Berliet avec container, a beautiful model in its first state, with convex hubs, round tread black DST tyres, platform and spare hub secured with a screw, container with separate, non-diecast hoisting eye on top, inner cabin roof smooth and no. 34A on the sturdy yellow illustrated box. It was available from 1956 to 1965 according to the catalogues, renumbered 581 in 1959. It keeps the company of its Berliet colleague no. 34A Berliet benne carrires Marrel. I made two pictures tonight, by candle light, because the daylight is diminishing rapidly at night these days. Kind regards, Jan

Hi Jan. Nice model. I think that it's the second version because it has the hook painted in black instead of grey. You can see it in the thread that I posted under the tittle :Perhaps can you put a photo of this Berliet in the 'new arrivals' thread Friendly yours. Richard

Hi Richard, but this IS the new arrivals thread, with - as you can see - the over 380 posts we have done on this subject in the past time. Anyway, thanks very much for your comment. I did not know about the grey hook. Indeed, mine is black, so I will make a note that it is - though early - a second version because of that. Kind regards, Jan

Hi Jan. Sorry for my mistake but I did not see the title 'new arrival' on the top of the topic .... and I still don't ! I am not very familiar with the new forum. Best regards Richard
