Jan those fire engines are stunning. Bruce as an Alfa owner I am incredulously jealous of those two beautiful vehicles. Dave

Dave Thank you very much for your compliments on my Alfas - very much appreciated. I had a UK version in red but sold it several years ago, much to my regret these days. Kind regards Bruce (150) #631 12 June 2015

janwerner wrote: 'Both models below arrived from the States, for very reasonable prices. Still, we, euro countries experience quite some trouble with buying from the States and GB, the exchange rate of the euro being so low at this moment. Well, there were also more favourable times, when the GBP almost equalled the euro and the dollar was nearing 1.5 euro, and they may return some day. The reason for buying a model that is beyond my time slot of 1934-1959 (the 1961 Fire Engine) is explained in its newly created thread, 259 Fire Engine (1961-1970). The final issue of the 25h/250 Streamlined Fire Engine (silver bell, treaded tyres, shiny base plate, italic brand lettering on box and treaded tyres pictured there) was just filling in an omission, a wanting variant of this iconic model. Both models to be rated as 'excellent', with some minor chipping. Box of 259: 'poor', box of 250: 'good'. Kind regards. Jan' Jan Great acquisitions. (I loved your photo of all the models with the tin plate ladders on the photography thread.) You are not the only country where buying items overseas is quite expensive. For Australia, buying from the UK and the EU is more expensive considering the exchange rates applicable to both currencies as too the US especially the latter as their postage costs have become astronomical coupled with the falling Australian dollar. No doubt one of these days you may be able to secure a better box for your excellent 259. Kind regards Bruce (150) #632 12 June 2015

Offered on eBay like this one month ago, dirty, dull, stained, possibly chipped and scratched on the tilt, rusty? A twilight photograph without any contrast or brightness. Still, my X-ray eyes said it might very well be much better than this. And this is how it came out after thorough but very carefully cleaning this afternoon, excellent to near mint, looking like new:
Kind regards, Jan

Thanks Dave, I fail to understand why some dealers do present their trade like this. Obviously the price I paid for this item was for the neglected model as shown on eBay and not for the extremely fine model that emerged at the end of my miniature car-wash! Kind regards, Jan

Jan--Just beautiful.....a real gem, and so neat that you found it 'hiding' on eBay. To say it cleaned up nice would be the understatement of the year. And I really like that color combo............ Regards, Terry

Kind regards, Jan' Jan What an exquisite acquisition! Please excuse me for being over exuberant but that was a fantastic buy! Full marks to you, and full marks to the eBay seller for posting a crappy picture that drove others away!! Here is the eBay photograph for the 182 Porsche 356A I won quite a few years ago. Green? Funny looking coloured hubs? Even with the seller not answering my emails, I still threw caution to the wind!
And this is what arrived with no cleaning required!!
It makes the acquisition all that better when a model arrives in a far better condition than expected! Of course there are times when the opposite is true! Kind regards Bruce(150) #647 17 June 2015

Richard wrote: 'Beautiful Truck Jan. Congratulations to your eyes. Almost same story for this Ford I recieved this morning ! See you soon ! Richard' Richard Another great acquisition. I wonder if your local postman will be seeking a change with his employment conditions considering all these parcels he has to carry that come your way! But there is nothinbg like opening a parcel containing a great model! Keep it up - your postman probably needs the exercise anyway! Kind regards Bruce (150) #648 17 June 2015
