Good Morning all I have recently acquired a no 42b Police Motor Cycle Patrol (The one with a side car). I noticed that the wheels were different on the motor cycle that the one on the side car. As far as I can tell the model has not been tampered with and the wheels look original. One of my other motor cycles has the same white tyres as this one and another has the same black tyres as this one on the side car. But I have not seen one with the combination. In the Dinky Toys Book 7th Ed by Dr Force, bottom part of page 16 I see the different wheels, but as I said never the white and the black wheels on the same model. Does anybody know more about it. Thank You Dirk Bloem South Africa

Hi Dirk Bloem, the one you show above is the no. 43b RAC Motor Cycle Patrol. It seems that the side car's wheel isn't only different in colour, but also in size. This example, with its white tyres/wheels on the Motor Cycle, may be either very late pre-war or very early post-war. The slightly smaller black wheel, however, is most probably a (wrong size) later replacement in my opinion. This is the Rubber Wheel no. 10118/098, meant to be a replacement for early dublo size Dinky Toys, like the no. 35b/200 Racer/Midget Racer. Richard, nice 'little things'. Kind regards, Jan

Hi Jan Thank you for the comment, I really cannot see any altering to the axle. It is a well used model but still good for me to display. I will not correct the wheel. I posted earlier that I do have 2 Dragon's (military, 1 with driver and 1 without) with the same black wheels on as well. A friend of mine has the pre war tank in 2 colours (Green and camo) also all original. Originally it should have chains on. Dirk

Jan-I agree with your comments, and would tend to guess it was an early post war version, still using white tires until they were used up, and someone likely replaced that sidecar tire, which would be very easy to do. As an aside, I do not think it a pre-war version, as it does not show the extra detailing present on those.....both on the driver and the motorcycle. Best regards, Terry

Hallo Terry I will get a closer loot at the axle again. I do not think it is a pre war model. The casting is far to 'good'. I confirm there is no extra detailing. Dirk

Dirk For sure it is not pre-war.....I have a pre-war version of the RAC, and the driver has lots of extra detail....white shirt, buttons painted, etc. and on the right side of the motorcycle the cylinder head and exhaust pipe are painted silver. It is possible, though very unlikely, that it was made that way. Jan and I agree that the original white tire on the sidecar likely went flat, and it was easily replaced with a current black one. That rear axle is only slightly flattened on the end, so replacing that tire would be easy. But Dinky did use old stocks of white tires for a short time after WWII....I have several examples, so white tires alone are not indicative of pre-war vintage. You may certainly leave it as is......the choice is yours! Best regards, Terry

Hi, as all axle ends are rounded it's definitely post-war. Kind regards, Jan

Jonathan-I love these pre-war figure sets, with their colorful hand painted clothes, and super detailing......they are just delightful. Must have been so time consuming doing these......lots of ladies sitting at benches, with a handful of tiny paint brushes. Very nice Jonathan!Best regards, Terry
