What beautiful catalogues, Jan! Meanwhile my last Dinky Toy -- well, for a while, anyway -- arrived today. I was pleased to get this uncommon bus. As members will probably already know, this promotional came affixed to a plinth. Mine had obviously been removed so the recipient's child could play with it, but one can see the hole drilled in the base where the screw was.

A very unusual variation, one of which I was not aware, and one to watch out for. I presume the lettering is by paper labels rather than transfers? Kevin.

Terry, yes, perhaps it is the last binge before sobriety and joining Binns Road Anonymous. We shall see. Meantime I hope you and yours are having a good trip!!

Kevin, in fact the lettering is --unusual for Meccano Ltd. in this period -- via transfers. Vectis has stated in past listings that there were only 50 produced, but I think it more likely that there were 500. Here is a picture from a current eBay auction (Buy It Now price 895!) showing how the model was originally supplied.

The London & Manchester Assurance bus is a very nice addition to your collection. I doubt I'll ever manage to get one of these, but I do have a nice Code 3 version which was made by someone (not me) to represent a real bus which carried this advert on the 1970s. The most impressive feature is the way they have moved the staircase to match this particular bus - check the window layout on the lower deck. The green and yellow bus has also had a similar operation carried out (also not by me - I don't have the skill or patience for this!).

I love those later 28 series Vans, and only wish Meccano had re-issued them post-war with a variety of liveries..... it was perfect for that!Best regards, Terry

Richard now you must find the five variations for the tri-porteur and specialy the one with the black rider.

Terry, your's looks like mine and it's probably the later version. Jacques, I never saw this black rider in a sale. Certainly very difficult to find ! For the moment I have two versions : the red and the green with the rider paint in grey ! Kind regards Richard
