Al---While I understand the logic and thinking about not being able to delete a post, due to potential existing other replies, it would still seem odd to me if, instead of deleting, one merely went back and deleted the picture, then also erased the text, which is what I finally did.....you would still have those followup replies, but now to a blank (but not deletd) posting......which also doesn't seem much better then losing them if the offending post was simply deleted. I would think members could use some descretion, and promptly delete any post not worthy of keeping. For me, the occasional double post is the most likely culprit, and it would be nice to simply delete it right away. Other times, someone might make an improper comment or erroneous one, and simply want to delete it after further thought......just my two cents!! Terry

I don't necessarily disagree with anything you're saying, Terry. But this is the way that the website and forum is designed. To a large extent, the website is prefab technology, a kit of parts built out of the box and painted over in a preferred colour. The customization options can be a little deeper than the superficial and I'll need to go through a bunch of documentation to assess if a fundamental behaviour can be modified. Until then, I just wanted to outline, in the event that it couldn't be otherwise, the reason why the whole deletion policy is what it is.

Are sub-comments necessary, I have never heard about these before. I still think that this site is very much too complicated and that it has many useless functions, it can be simplified very much without loosing any efficiency.

Well, I'd have to say that *I* don't think sub-comments are particularly necessary. They are, however, part of the core design of the website. New feature Although sub-comments must stay, I have managed to make a system alteration so that a comment can be deleted IF it has received no sub-comments. Between the edit and reply options, you should now see 'delete'. Now, do you guys want to have email notifications about comments? Or do you want something like a subscription where you get notifications over all topics in one of more forums (which you choose)?

Thank you, Al, for all your efforts to help improving the site and forum! I, for me, would prefer the (rather habitual) option that once you started a thread, or stepped in later with a comment/reply, one is automatically subscribed to notification emails about new comments/replies in that thread, unless one deliberately unsubscribes with an unsubscribe button. Others may give there opinion. Kind regards, Jan

Email notifications about postings - new feature. Hi Jan, So now the forum should send a notification message to your email account about comments to a topic that you either started or commented on previously. The message will also contain a link back to your account settings where you can select to receive memos about replies to all comments, just your own comments, or unsub from the topic notifications. Well, that's the theory - let's see if it works. How To Use Have a look underneath the Add New Comment panel, you should see a checkbox titled 'notify me when new comments are posted' with the options to get 'all comments' or 'replies to my comments'. By default, the box is checked with the all comments option. I don't know if members would prefer a deliberate opt-in default - let me know if so. Al

Al---I agree with Jan's comments on this, and also wanted to thank you for finding away to allow deleting a post if no sub comments have been added.....that works for me! And also thanks for continuing to make some needed improvements.....the site is now much better than when we started! Terry

The 'notify me' box is checked and the 'All comments' button (is it any use ?) is selected but I have not yet received any email notification. When answering a post, the discussion should show below with last post first so that one can refer to the previous posts. I agree with Jan, the default setting should be Notify me. It is easy enough to uncheck the box if desired. Size 14 for the text should also be the default setting. Font size does not work, I have selected size 9 for te line above and 16 for this line but when saved all the text shows at size 12 !

Well, let's cheerfully work on this. Things are better now already than they were on the previous website! Those who don't like it are completely free to walk away, but I don't know a better alternative to recommend to them... Kind regards, Jan
