Jan----Very nice additions indeed. I don't remember seeing that Breakdown Lorry in that color before, but it looks quite handsome.Best regards, Terry

As for me, the more primitive a Dinky, the better, so I am very fond of these simple motor trucks and breakdown vans - preferably post-war re-issues, as these tend to be the most stable, reliable in quality. Kind regards, Jan

Jan---Just a followup question regarding the lovely, older 22c Motor Trucks, of which you now have some very nice examples. Some time ago, I posted about a 22c I bought from a dealer here in the states, and to me, at least, it was unusual because it was red, with what appeared to be original white tires, smooth, shiny black wheels, and black wings. I never saw any comment from you and I remember when I posted it on Planet Diecast, some of the members there doubted its authenticity, thinking it had the wings painted black by someone at a later date I guess. I have very carefully examined this model many times, even with a magnifying glass, and can find no evidence that it is not original. The seamless transition between the red body and the black wings for sure seems to have been done with a mask, and there are no telltale brush marks on any of the black surfaces. I just cannot believe someone has re-painted this. So I have been left with the belief it is a somewhat unusual, very early post war version that had all of these characteristics, and likely did not continue them very long. I was curious on your take of this particular little truck....thanks!Best regards, Terry

Terry, looking at the photo is seems to look good. In fact, I also use my hires photos as a magnifying glass to check if a model is alright. It shows much more than the bare eye. And still ... an extra check with model in hand is also necessary and it's only you who can do that. If you are convinced it's simply OK. The only suspicious thing (possibly hardly to be seen with the bare eye, but unveiled by the photo) is the tiny touch of black paint on the left front axle end. That spoil of paint can only have been done after production and is most probably a trace of a small paint touch in action of a previous owner, probably retouching a blister chip on the wheel(s). I do not think that it is the trace of a full embellishment project, adding black wings to an all red model. The thick axles testify that it is a post-war production and It is certainly very unusual to see these contrasting coloured wings post-war, but not impossible. The final judgment is to you ... Anyway, with this unusual example you have the advantage of attractive pre-war characteristics combined with post-war quality and reliability of the casting. Kind regards, Jan PS: Sorry, Terry, if I do not always comment on everything, I am too present here already in my opinion ...

Jan.....I understand about not over commenting, but lately there are only comments from a tiny group of us......we had some good participation a few months ago, now it has lapsed back into minimal participation, so the back & forth banter has really fallen off.....I miss that as that is what I enjoyed here. Terry After three days, I thought your comments would have resulted in a response from someone apart from me! There has been a marked reduction in the number of members who help to add something to this great website. (Remember the number of comments that followed its creation after the loss of the old website? How wrong we all were, now that the teething problems have been sorted out with thanks to those dedicated tech-support fellows who have made it all possible. Patience is a virtue!) As for the minimal participation, I often wonder whether this is as a result of the content of some Posts or whether it is something else. You know my feelings about the amount of chit-chat in the past, but I have mellowed, and now find it refreshing! One thing I have noticed, is each time I open the website, it invariably shows no member online - a marked difference to the old dtcawebsite.org days when one would find at least one or two other members online. I hope I see more comments from you on some of those other recent posts - not forgetting any that go back in history! Kind regards Bruce (150) 20160614/942/1907

I agree with you, Bruce. Still, I am convinced that many more enthusiasts, both inside and outside the DTCA, are rather watching than contributing, for various personal reasons. Many will be interested but do not feel the 'urge' to come out. Even I, for me, am only logged in when I am preparing posts, but I do not take the trouble of logging in when merely navigating and reading posts. So being logged in is not the only measure for use of the website. Of course I would also appreciate much more interaction and mutual communication. Are we the only ones that do discoveries, are happy with new additions, have questions, try to reconstruct what happened in the past in Liverpool and Bobigny, simply have fun with our hobby and interest? I second your call for more participation and comments, for the benefit and fun of us all! This is the best online place to exchange and find Dinky information and opinions I know. Kind regards, Jan

Now that the summer is here, most websites are going to have reduced traffic as people make the most of the weather. Plus there are always more lurkers than posters.I've added a stats panel below New Comments in the side menu.

Latest addition is this Grue 'Salev', Dinky France no. 50. Some preliminary photos of this first state of 1957 here. The extra packing piece inside did not prevent the handle from piercing the box. Well, a little restoration will no doubt make this minor flaw invisible in the future. Kind regards, Jan
