This is the Visi - box for my 138 Hillman Imp: The red plastic parts
and the rubber bands are what retain the model in the box.The box has to be taken apart to remove the model,
this means that effectively the model cannot subsequently be stored in it.Whilst it is excellent for display purposes in the shop its further use
after
purchase is extremely limited.I think this is why so few survive.Dave

And I discovered that the letters ' DINKY SUPERTOYS GUY ' on the base are bigger on the ' Golden Shred ' than on the ' Spratts ' Kind regards Richard

To all --Sorry that I did not reply back sooner to the comments on my post about the 626 Military Ambulance. I had commented that it had been available with and without a driver, and many of you disagreed with that. I did go back today and check my sources, and it states that in 3 different books: GB of DT, Dinky Toys and Modelled Miniatures (both by Richardson), and lastly, the Force Dinky Books. I realize that none of these are infallible, and possible that they have mis-stated this fact, and the fact that none of you have seen one would indicate they are at least quite rare, if at all. Almost always some controversy with Dinky's, part of which leads to fun discussion and speculation! Terry

This table seem to mean that there were two dies. The early one without the triangles on each side of the number plate,
with the four little brackets to attach the axles was used for the four first issues: Slumberland,
Lyons,
Weetabix
and Spratt ' s.The brackets were used only for the Slumberland
and the Lyons
after
which the die was modified so that the brackets could be deleted.Around
or in 1954 a second die was used with a narrower marking,
the word GUY is smaller
and it has the triangles. This die was used for the Ever Ready
and the Golden Shred.I do not have all these vans
or pictures of the bases.Could some one provide these pictures for the Spratt ' s
and Lyons. Please let me know if any of your vans is different
from
the table above.

Jacques --Here are pictures of all of my Guy Van bases, so hopefully this will help! I also noticed that the casting bosses on each side of the word Dinky are slightly larger on the last two vans. Terry first is the Slumberland
[img
then the Lyons
[img
then the Weetabix
[img
then the Spratt's
[img
then the Ever Ready
[img
and lastly, the Golden Shred

Terry,
Thank you for posting these pictures,
they confirm that there were two Guy Vixen dies. Also the reference changed
from
514 to 91x when the hubs changed
from
ridged to Supertoys
and the boxes changed
from
blue to white with blue stripes in
or
after
May 1953.

Congratulations Terry ! The imperfection making it ' nearly mint ' is hard to find.Does it have to do with moving parts knocking
or rubbing each other ? Of course the wanting box isn ' t really important,
but still I am very fond of those honest
and straightforward constructions
and designs,
the natural (but unintentional) use of environmental friendly materials,
which are so often replaced by clamorous designs
and colours,
and abundant use of plastics nowadays.Indeed a miracle that it survived in such a pristine state in spite of this.Kind regards,
Jan

Thanks......I am very happy with the Bedford. Now I need to find the wagon version in like condition.I do not see too many of either of these on eBay lately,
so it might take awhile to find the right one.Jan,
there is a tiny chip on the right front fender...the size of a pinhead,
so that is what keeps it
from
being mint. But I got a very good deal,
so it was within my personal standards. The rest of the paint is brilliant
and nearly perfect.Dinky did a wonderful job usually with their painting. And Dave,
nice bunch of new Dinky ' s that you received....I like all of those,
so well done ! That cream Riley is really nice........I also had to get a replacement light tank a few years ago.My original one had long since lost its antenna
and one of the the chains.Terry
