Great additions,
Terry,
and in wonderful shape ! As far as I am aware the Military Ambulance always had a driver - as all suitable military vehicles had
from
end 1954 on (
some lost it again in the course of the 1960s I presume
).I have three Muir - Hill Dumpers,
some especially because of the diference in box designs.A wonderful model: Kind regards,
Jan

Here is the announcement
from
the September 1956 Meccano Magazine for the 626 Military Ambulance which definitely had a driver right
from
the start. As far as I know the only change was adding windows. If there are some out there without drivers they will be factory errors.Dave

No,
Richard,
it isn ' t missing.Of most British DT ' s of these years I have the French equivalent. Here it is (on the right),
in a rather unusual presentation,
a photo I made in order to demonstrate the extra washer between the French body
and front bogie: Best regards,
Jan

Nice new finds Terry ! As a kid I always thought the Ambulance was a Commer because of the cab,
I didn ' t know that Motor Panels etc made cabs that were used by other chassis makers.CW.

I agree with you Dave.At the beginning in 1956 without windows
and in 1962 with windows. This ambulance had always a driver. The differences are in the boxes.I have seen 5 boxes: - With drawings on two sides.- Without drawings with reference number on a red oval on the opening sides.that ' s all folks ! Richard - Box red
and yellow - Box with ' Dinky Toys ' in italic - Glazed yellow box
and one that I have never seen: Glazed gilded gold box

the tyes are marked MECCANO
and the base plate is stamped ' DINKY SUPERTOYS - DUMPER MUIR - HILL - ASSEMBLE EN FRANCE - MECCANO PARIS - 887.There are at least nine different boxes for this model.

The 626 Military Ambulance also came in both Yellow
and Gold Visi - pak export boxes - these are quite rare as they are very fragile. Here is one of my Fordson Ambulances in a Gold box.The export Visi - pak boxes should always contain an ambulance with windows Dave

Dave,
how is such a model fixed onto the base ? I presume the model will not be allowed to rattle around in its visipac box.Kind regards,
Jan

If you look underneath each axle there is a hole.Underneath the hole there is a plastic strip which is longer than the hole.A rubber band is placed over each axle
and wrapped around the plastic underneath to retain the model I will post a photo tomorrow.Dave
