Australia meets Southern California, DTCA Style

I just returned from a special evening, getting to meet fellow member Bruce Hoy and his wife, Lina. My wife, Cindy, and I journeyed up near the LA airport, and we met for dinner. With only a couple of hours, we didnt get to discuss too many Dinky topics, but we did enjoy visiting and getting to know each other. Bruce and Lina were here in the US, for some touring, so it was a great opportunity to see a fellow Dinky Toys collector....a very rare occasion indeed. And it was special for me to meet Bruce......he has contributed so much over the years to the general knowledge of Dinky Toys, through his study of price lists, boxes, and catalogs. He has also contributed countless very well written, highly detailed articles on many models as well as their 1:1 prototypes. He was one of my first mentors in the realm of our hobby, so it was a real pleasure to spend some time with him tonight. And, not to be forgotten, is mention of Bruces well-traveled Dinky Toys DeSoto Fireflite, which has accompanied him on all of his international travels since 2005.....click on the attached photo to see it in the foreground! That Fireflite must have more miles on it than most 1:1 DeSotos ever did. No wonder it has required replacement tires!

Jonathan.... So true! I dont know how many air miles it has accumulated, but must be a considerable sum, as Bruce has traveled quite a bit. What a great year it has been for an old Dinky collector.....I got to meet 3 other life long collectors, two from international areas.....I have thoroughly enjoyed it!Best regards, Terry
