Discussion transfered from the thread 'New arrivals' This afternoon, visiting my previous work, my successor colleague pushed this French Dinky Toy, no. 528 Cabriolet 404 Peugeot Pininfarina into my hands as a gift. Although a bit dusty it is complete and without any damage, in its good box, one loose side flap. The story behind it is that he bought this one in the 1960s as a present for a friend's birthday. Somehow the party was cancelled, but his mother forbid him to play with it, as it was meant to be given to his friend. But this never happened, so it has been stored all these years untouched until ... he became aware of my Dinky madness and gave it to me this afternoon. I made two snapshots, but I will remove the dust, make better photos and create an appropriate thread for this model. Kind regards, Jan

Ooh Jan That is absolutely lovely, how fortunate for you that the party was cancelled all those years ago - well done Dave

Jan What a wonderful story......both how he originally obtained it, and then how it came to you. And to have it virtually new and unused all those years.....I like to think you were somehow destined to be the caretaker for it. I had also not seen that model previously, as it falls well outside my Dinky interest area, but it is nicely done, and I love the color. Best regards, Terry.

For me too, as you know, it falls well outside my Dinky interest era - and I do not particularly like the moving parts, the giant seams around opening doors and bonnet, the plastic interior, the 'jewelled headlamps', etc., but I was so impressed by this gesture that I will not look this gift horse in the mouth, and I will lovingly include this model in the collection. In fact, this is a particular case where a very special provenance wins it from other considerations. Besides, the longer I watch it, the more I seem to like it, as so many other similar Dinky gifts by various people in the past ... Kind regards, Jan

Not to mention the joy when each were first received all those years ago! The second photo with the bonnet up indicates a flat battery from sitting around all these years, just waiting for the auto club repairer to arrive! Bruce

The lady driver may be british, she also drives the Triumph Spitfire ref. 114, the Daf ref. 508, The Renault 8S ref. 1414 and she takes a ride in the Fun A'hoy set ref. 125. Jacques.

Nice to see that my response on the New Arrival site was not also transferred to this new thread. Anyway, here it is for what it is worth. Bruce, I am not sure what you mean, my English does not reach that level. Never mind. I think that this girl is a muslim with her head covered. Jacques.

Familiar as I am with pre-1960 Dinky Toys, the less familiar I am with the period after, so this recent present by a colleague of mine meant an obligation for me to dive into the mid-1960s. So here it is again, with some photos that I made yesterday and comments. Thank you, Jacques, for creating this new thread, for which the contribution to follow is meant to be a continuation. For others to add, complete and/or correct, please! This is a model of the new illustrated box generation, leaving behind the matt old all yellow boxes with the uncomplicated illustrations, and now with all features that you can imagine in this era
