Your two tankers are very nice Terry, my collection has become too big and I have stopped looking for the variations nowadays unless I come across something really special. The vast majority of DinkToys are made of Mazac, sometomes known as Zamac. It is not commonly known that one or two models were made experimentally from Aluminium. The ESSO tanker is made from Mazac and weghs 106g. the identically sized Castrol tanker is made from Aluminium and is almost half the weght at 58.3g. Most of the production of Castrol tankers is in Mazac and the Aluminium ones are very very rare. I wrote a substantial article about this in the January 2011 Dinky Toy Journal. Dave

That little Trojan van made for a very nice run of Dinky Models. I also have the set and I love the various liveries that Dinky used. What era was that van made and used? Am guessing late 1940's thru 1950's.... Terry

You are absolutely right with your timing here Terry. They made cars and vans pre-war and predominantly vans post-war fron the late 1940s to the end of the 1950s. Then they made some bubble cars unders license and then some sports cars before going out of business in the late 1960s. Dave

Here is the #179 Dinky Studebaker President, introduced in the 1958 catalogue, along with it's twin, the #180 Dinky Packard Clipper. What is interesting is that these two cars are almost identical except for some trim differences. The Studebaker Corp. had bought out what was left of Packard around 1956, and until it's demise in 1958, they were re-badged Studebakers. Packard had been a very well respected car maker up until WWII. The Depression pretty much wiped out the company and they were never the same, even thought they did bring out and market cars after the war. It is also interesting to me that Meccano chose to make so many various Studebaker and Packard models. Neither one was ever a major car manufacturer in the league with say General Motors, Ford, or Chrysler, but over the years there were many Studebaker trucks and cars, and several Packards. By the way, both of these are 1957 models and I apologize that neither of these are in mint condition...the paint seemed very prone to chipping on many of these late 1950's Dinky's and it seems like it was applied very heavy...maybe too thick?? I also think that this model of the Packard suffered quite a bit from a lack of detail by Dinky...the real car looks quite a bit nicer and trimmed out, with lots of accents. Terry

Dave-- They are showing on my computer under my post....not sure why you aren't seeing them...is there any reason you can think of why I would be seeing them? When I did first post them, I did go back and do several edits to the text only, but I could still see all of the pictures. Maybe I need to re-post everything. Here are the pictures once again..........let me know if these come through....Did the text show on the first post? Terry This is the 1957 Studebaker President sedan This is the 1957 Packard Clipper sedan

Hi Terry When I first looked at it the text was there and there where little boxes where each image should be which contained the following message: 'Sorry. This person moved or deleted this image. Photobucket.' On your first listing all except three of the images ar now there, see the attached screengrab: On your second listing all the images are there. Dave K. may know the answer to this.
