582 and 982 Bedford Pullmore Car Transporter (1953-63) was created by janwerner
Before continuing on and on in the New Arrivals thread, I open this one in order to keep the information on the car transporter in the right place. I have no spectacular new information on short notice but I wanted to show two publicity pictures on which the six rivets (well, half of it) are shown:
The pre-announcement in the 1953 UK catalogue - the introduction in MM of June 1953 just did not show them anymore.
A 4 page leaflet of 1954, the Flemish and French Belgian versions shown here.
My examples, the third showing the new, higher box 'With Detachable Loading Ramp' (text not seen here), accommodating the Loading Ramp box as well.
In the March 1954 Meccano Magazine the Toyman - trying to compensate for the still wanting loading ramp - made his own.
And finally a view inside the box with packing pieces present. There is also the early all-medium blue version - some early ones in the early 1950s dark blue picture-less lid-box - and the latest one with windows. The Meccano construction system also had a Pullmore Car Transporter as an example to build, but I cannot find the picture at this moment - for others to find ...Kind regards, Jan

The following posts have been transfered from the 'New arrivals' thread. I also just got a new arrival this week, and was delighted to open up the box and see it for the first time. This is an early version of the #582 Pullmore Car Transporter, not the 6 rivet, but still the single, light blue color, along with the darkened loading ramps. For Christmas in 1955, I had received my first one from my dear grandmother, and I always loved the Transporter....a wonderful toy for a young boy. When the chance arrived to buy an almost like new one, and in the earlier version, I jumped at it. The date code on the inside of the box shows this was made in September, 1953. From prior reading, I think the Transporter first appeared in early 1953, as the limited run 6 rivet version. From pictures I have seen, the 6 rivet also appeared to have decal lettering on the side of the trailer, as you can clearly see the yellowed background around the words. At first I wasn't sure how much I would like the single, somewhat pale color of this one, but it has grown on me, plus the look of the darkened ramps, which are probably a little more realistic as well. The box it came with is almost like new, and has the two inserts included, and the model itself has only a few minor marks, so I am very happy with it. On one side of the box, above the wording 'A Meccano Product', is a number.....'50582'. I seem to remember reading something about that, but cannot now remember it if meant anything.....please let me know if it does! Below are several photos, along with some showing it loaded with my Triumph 1800 saloons...making a trip from the manufacturer to a local car dealer.....enjoy!
From the 1953 catalog, showing the early color scheme.
From the 1954 catalog, showing the later two tone color scheme.

Splendid capture Terry with a complete box ! It would be interesting if you could put a photo in the Pullmore thread. That will add a good information on this beautiful truck. Kind regards. Richard.

Here under my Pullmore Car Transporter team that I already have posted in that thread :
www.dtcawebsite.org/dinky-forum/2-dtca-f...-annual-meeting-2013
The only informations I have are : - ref.582 made in 1953 : Blue tractor + light blue trailer and light blue tractor and light blue/fawn trailer. 2 types of blue wheels as we can see on the Jan pictures. '582' on the trailer's base plate -ref.982a made in 1954 : The same as above but with '982' on the trailer's base plate and 'Dinky supertoys' on the tractor. Box ref. 'Dinky Toys 982' -ref.982b made in 1958 : Same as above but Box 'Dinky Supertoys' with straight letters. Only one colour type : Blue tractor + light blue trailer + blue wheels -ref.982c made in 1960 : same as above but box with oblique letters. Unfortunately, I don't have any information on the dark blue tractor and trailer version. Kind regards. Richard

A very nice example + box indeed, Terry! Here is mine, and it's striking to see that all colour shades of the loading area's seem to be different. Terry's very dark, Dave's more greyish and mine a kind of medium buff.
As you see my box is numbered 982 already, although the number cast underneath is 582. The box is in a rather poor condition.
My subsequent two-tone version has the same 982 box (with the model in all pale blue on it, with differently coloured loading strips), and it still has the number 582 cast in down under. Kind regards, Jan

Kind regards, Jan Jan The colour of the decks has been usually referred to as 'mushroom', with there being two shades of 'mushroom'. Here is my 582 with the six rivets :
Interesting that the drawing on the box does not show any rivets, probably due to those in Meccano not liking their appearance although things changed in 1957 with the drawing in that year's catalogue showing the rivets for the first time, although the drawing on the box as a Dinky Supertoys still did not show the rivets. I also agree that all these posts should belong in a 582/982 Pullmore Car Transporter thread. Kind regards. Bruce.

I have not found any sort of 'time table' or other reference that clearly states when each of these version was made and/or changed, and even the Dinky Toys Encyclopedia does not give very specific dates. I would be curious when the very first model was introduced (Meccano Magazine I think mentioned May 1953), when the change was made from 6 rivets to 4, and when the change was made from single color/dark ramps to two-tone. Do any of you that have boxes, have a date code to refer to? As I mentioned, mine says September 1953. The 1954 catalog shows the new color scheme, but not sure when it actually took effect. I also searched, and found only a few past entries for this model on the forum, so not sure if we should start a new page with that specific reference, or just re-direct these posts. Best regards, Terry.
