I have been quiet recently because I have had a huge amount of work to do on a book project, this will be going to the printers in the next few days so I intend to be more active on the website. Here is my little group of Devons with a trade box and an individual box. Dave

Hi Bruce I have created a thread for the 40d Devon and moved the stuff into that, it has also taken your thread on the Somerset which now really needs to be moved back to the 40j entry, I cannot do that as I was not the originator, if you copy the thread into the 40j and then delete your own thread I think everything will then be OK with two correct threads. When I created the headings for the all the UK threads this was thousands of individual entries and took me about 100 hours to complete. I took the dates from Ramsey's as they were readily available and it was absolutely IMPOSSIBLE for me to individually check, and correct/amend, these dates as I simply do not have the time to do that. That would have taken weeks!!!! Furthermore on some of the entries I have added some information like A40 to the Somerset, Humber to the 1-ton Army Truck. These additions are factual and not something I have invented, somehow this seems to be a serious offence - if that is the case I am GUILTY. I am really wishing I had not created this damned list in the first place, it took a huge amount of my time, no-one is using it and all I get are criticisms. After the end of this year I won't be a member of the DTCA and that will not upset me in the slightest, I promised to try to help Dave Kaun out with the huge amount of work required on the website and I will not renege on that promise. Any volunteers for someone else to step up to the plate next year????? These things are toys and we are supposed to be having fun. Dave

David, You should not have had to create a new thread, it should be there already with no hyphen in front and one after the ref.The Devon was described in the January 1949 Meccano Magazine together with the Blaw-Knox bulldozer. So the date of issue is correct in the thread heading. the date of deletion is often difficult to establish but 1958 seems to be correct.David you are not responsible for the dates as you have taken them from Ramseys which as every book and CD contains some errors.

David and Jacques I have no idea how to transfer my post to the 40j/161 topic and besides it would contain details that are no longer relevant, so I have deleted it in its entirety, thus losing about an hour's worth of my time. No worries. Jacques Dave no doubt used the pdf list to create the new Topic for the Devon as it still contains 'A40' which Meccano never used.. Dates can be corrected as time goes by. Dave As for the amount of hours spent, when you prepared the list of entries, it is disappointing that you did not consider sending the pdf out to others within the organization to check all your work. I am not certain if you did - maybe you did not think that I and others would be capable of providing some assistance. As I have stated several times previously, your efforts are more than appreciated, but I just wished that I could have offered some assistance. As for adding details, well I must disagree with you in that regard. As you have often said, these are/were toys, and the title for each toy should reflect exactly how Meccano described them. For instance, I should be complaining that the Holden does not contain the factual designation of the model. It is in fact a Holden EJ Special Sedan, but I am perfectly happy with what Meccano called it, even when I received mine all those years ago from a father who worked for a Holden dealer. But to add factual details is completely unnecessary. Meccano never included the word 'cigarettes' with the Capstan van either, it was simply a Morris Commercial Van - Capstan. However, I have noticed over the past 21 months that I have contributed to this website that possibly the amount of hours I have spent researching, checking, writing, selecting images, reducing these to a size acceptable to the site, and finally posting the description and images was perhaps a complete waste of my time and all this has achieved is to increase the load on this website. At times I have often wondered whether it would have been best for me to have just continued my membership, received and read The Journal, had a wander through the website, and left it at that without getting 'involved'. Finally, I have heard from SAS who have apologised for not acting on my request to send that parcel to you, and have offered to send it post free. Under the circumstances with what has ensured with this website, I will be replying to SAS requesting them not to send the lots to you for on-forwarding to me but to put them back for auction. Thank you for your initial kindness for agreeing to act as my postman of which I was and still am, very grateful. Sincerely Bruce (150) 20160407/873/0314

Hi Bruce It is the mechanics of the system that stopped me moving your Somerset item over. You can only move a complete thread and not individual contributions. Whilst struggling with really slow response time on the site I could not do any more than I did Obviously guilty on all charges, I did my utmost best in creating the list in a very limited timeframe. Sorry I am not perfect. Dave

Dear Members. I have found in an old english magazine, called THE ILLUSTRATED LONDON NEWS, dated february 17, 1945, with a very funny publicity for an Austin 10. As there is no Austin 10 in the Dinky range, I post it here. Kind regards Richard
