So after Nicky Toys there is now Dickie Toys as well! Since when is this brand name in use, Jacques? And does no-one object to this near-Dinky Toys name? Kind regards, Jan Werner

Jan, As I understand it, the name 'Smoby Toys' applies to a french company owned by SIMBA DICKIE GROUP from Bayern. This name is not used as a brand for any product line. Smoby is a manufacturer of plastic and wooden toys. The die cast cars will be sold under the old brands of Solido (1/43) and Majorette at a smaller scale. I have never heard about DICKIE TOYS, the trade mark is DICKIE. Any way the marque DINKY TOYS has not been used since Maoford Ltd. earlier Meccano Ltd. has been taken over by Airfix in 1971. At this stage the trade mark DINKY has been registered by Airfix and the marque DINKY TOYS has not been used since. Note that on the catalogues and other documents after 1971 the word DINKY is followed by and Toys is written much smaller than the word DINKY. The four models issued by Mattel in 2006 were DINKY TOYS and those offered by Atlas are DINKY TOYS. There is no information so far that Mattel owns the marque DINKY TOYS as used by Meccano Ltd or Maoford Ltd. before the Airfix take over.

Thanks Jacques, my question was just provoked by the little red hippo logo in the press release, bearing the Dickie Toys lettering on its side. Apparently a kind of comma should be read in between: DICKIE, Toys. Kind regards, Jan Werner
