I have a copy of Factory of Dreams by Kenneth Brown and it is a great read. Honest and truthful, most of it is a brilliant read but the last 30 pages or so are very painful. Dave

Jacques I mentioned the 'imminent closure of the Meccano factory' as part of my post dealing with the application forms for the Dinky Toys Club that was included in the last catalogue issued for the American market. Unfortunately, your post is taking us away from this Thread, so I have responded with a copy of your post which is on Binns Road Closes the Gates for the Last Time thread just to ensure (as you have written a number of times in the past), that we do not go 'off topic'! Dave The book, 'Factory of Dreams' is a fascinating account, and as you said quite rightly, the last 30 or so pages are very painful. But returning to the Dinky Toys Club - it is interesting that the US version continued right up until the factory closed. I was a member of the later version of the Dinky Toys Club of America, but we parted ways many years ago, and I often wonder if any members of that club having joined up with the DTCA. Kind regards to you both Bruce (150) #607 8 June 2015

Greetings From Newsletter Number 4, Australia hit the front page!
Again I ask, I wonder what became of Master Paul Morgan. He certainly had a fine Dinky collection. Seen are three Fodens (two first series and one second), three Guy Flat Truck with Tailboard and at least one rare issue, a 25W Bedford Truck with black front mudguards. Kind regards Bruce (150) #687 30 June 2015

Greetings all! The above Post #7 was badly affected before and during the transfer process to the new website. With much thanks to Al Keeling, I can now bring this Post back to its original posting. With the images that were originally attached, these can still be viewed by clicking on the link. Bruce(150) 22 February 2016 #791 Greetings! In my last post on this topic, I scanned two pages from the 3rd issue of the Dinky Toys Newsletter, a small publication for the members of Meccano's Dinky Toys Club, listing the winners of 2 worth of Dinky Toys for the months of September, October and November 1959. The next newsletter saw a dramatic departure from the small booklet to a single large sheet, almost tabloid in size. The message from The Secretary, whoever he or she was, commenced with a lengthy explanation of the meaning of the word 'newsletter', and why the newsletter had gone to this new size and shape. Missing from that explanation was economics, as the new format was cheaper to produce and mail than the small booklet! However, back to the topic of the winners. In Issue 3, I mentioned that one of the winners was a young lady whose name was Miss Carol Adams, then aged 10 years old. In the 4th issue we now have two young lady winners for the month of February. (Of course it is possible there may have been more, as many winners only had the initial for their first name. (Although to be current with the time, their first name was their Christian name, a terminology that unfortunately has lost favour these days.) My scanner is incapable of scanning a large page such as the new format for the Newsletter, so I had to resort to my camera under artificial light, so my apologies if the image is not up to standard! <img src='images/sites/default/files/old-forum-images/IMG_2396_471x800.jpg[/img]> <img src='images/sites/default/files/old-forum-images/DTNewsletter4a470x800.jpg[/img]> Again I pose the same question as before. Are any of these 1960 Dinky Toys enthusiasts members or interested bystanders of the DTCA?? It is hard to believe that most of these young folk are no longer young, like us, but are now in their 60s, with grandchildren of their own!! Kind regards to you all including all those whose names now appear again in the electronic media!! Bruce (150)1 April 2015 #513

Terry and Dave I think Meccano was covering every possible base. Here is an example of that with an application form being included in a 174 Hudson Hornet. The model and box has a quality inspection stamp of 758 - July 1958 - one month before the model was released. It also has the price of 3/6, current from August 1958 through to April 1959. The next time the model sold for 3/6 was from May 1961 until it was deleted in 1963. My apologies to those who have seen this image before in the 'New Arrivals' topic!
