Have just looked at my emails and found some responses to my post. To give you an idea of my collection focus, basically anything that came out of the Meccano factory, have a lot of Meccano, Hornby Dublo, Hornby 'O' gauge and also the Dinkys. Enjoy all the ephemera of all products, of which must reference the dinky catalgue and pamphlet list referred to on this site, am many missing especially the overseas items ie not UK issued. Just bought some lots that contained dinkys from a few auctions, and also another twenty empty trade boxes as well as about 100 extremley good conditioned trade box era dinkys. Have about 370 trade boxes 60% full, not all different many of the same number, have 7of the 25h Fire Engine trade boxes with examples of each type used. Have been recently trying establish how many rade boxes that I have no example of, about 50 in the post war period but a few more if each type of box is included in the list. Even buy crushed boxes enjoy puting a bit of new live into the boxes by rebuillding them. I do enjoy adding to my Prewar boxes and model collection, everything is appreciated. Also Collect Ogden's cigarette cards, so appreciate all the comments about condition, but I enjoy having an example, as budget prevents buying perfection all the time. Also enjoy improving my collection. When I manage to work out how to add photo's etc, will add and contribute, but cannot see how to add a new topic of my choice at the moment. If any of you watch eBay on the Dinky list, have just paid for the prewar service station and two other items won last night. If I was bidding against you sorry. David

Dear Al, Yes the title of the thread has gone, like on most of other forums this title should be at the top of EACH post. Also the 'joined' date should not be here but on the profile page and the date of the post should be in larger letters, this is the important date. I always thought that the 'New arrivals' thread is not necessary, it has become a junk thread. New arrivals should be posted in their respective threads where they can be found again. For example Jan W's great pictures about the packaging of the mobile crane will be lost in a few weeks. If it had been posted in the 571 / 971 thread this very interesting piece of information could be found easily. This is only an example and it applies to most posts of the 'New arrivals thread'.I will answer Johnny's po in a proper thread later today. Kind regards Jacques

Hi Jacques, in my opinion we should consider this thread also as a kind of 'current affairs' thread, dealing with new acquisitions but also with some liberty regarding inevitable minor intermediate chat. Indeed, for more detailed information about a model or topic that information must/should be (double) posted in the correct dedicated topic thread - which, by the way, I did already for the Mobile Crane box interiors. I think we must be very happy with Al's actions for improving the forum. For us, contributors, it's the task to keep disciplined in posting information in the correct categories/topics threads, and that we operate accurately when introducing and formulating new topics. Kind regards, Jan

Not sure what you are getting at here, are we not allowed to chat on this forum, thought that was the whole idea. You do not need specific headings you need general catagories, for example prewar items, pre & post renumbering. I not how do you expect to navagate. The question about which trade box list, took me a while to find it again, PUBLICATIONS at the top, then BOXES & INSERTS, Then select the 1st item, Box numbers for trade boxes & set boxes, then press view, then press, dinky box numbers PDF. What comes up is an extensive list of all the trade boxes with reference numbers, very good. I must say a little challanging for me to find the information again. A libary of information would be good, has anybody been on the site nzmeccano, its a brilliant site, everything there is to know about Meccano, and it does contain all the Meccano mags with all the adverts for reference. Pictures of just about everything from individual peices to retails cabinetes. I think there is probably a picture of every set ever produced. Where can we add a pictures of every model, bo or display, never mind that question just found the gallery. Some nice pictures of some really desirable examples that have not seen, prewar irflow trade box for example. The libary of information is second to none and relatively easy to follow.

My key board has gone astray, trying to say 'I do not know you expect to navigate' with out general headings leading to sub-headings. Members also do need to be able to add topics at will to add to the ease of discussion, am I wrong in this view. David

Dear DavidT If you know any tradeboxes which are not in the list, please let me know. I hold lists of the A and 50000 boxes as well as a chart showing the different types of tradeboxes for each model. Jacques

Hello Jacques, You're right that the topic title should appear on every page. I suspect an update has reveresed my modification which was doing just that, so I'm prioritising to fix it. This is fixed. I'll take onboard what you're saying about the joined date because I think that sounds right too. Joined date has been removed from topic and comment headers. New Arrivals has evolved into a general discussion thread that will naturally gravitate from one subject to another. I don't view New Arrivals as junk though. Using the website purely as an information directory, yes, it would be useful to have every mention of anything in particular grouped into one area. But the website has a broader than utilitarian function because it is also a social space for the club - which might be just as important.

One of the great things about computers is that they search out the topics you want you would not need individual headings for each item. All you need to do is to place in the tittle the number the computer would do the rest or even just have a box that refers to a number. Am sure that would be less complicated and much easrier to find and follow. Am I wrong? Also were do you have the general discussion about whatever? With regard to the pictures refered to above, should they not be in a general libary appropiately catagorised? DavidT
