Prior to creating this Topic I discovered the existence of an existing Topic with the title, 33a Simca-Cargo fourgon + 33an Simca Cargo which had been opened on 31 December 2009 well before this new website was created. At that time, the title was not preceded by a dash that would have brought it in line numerically with all the other Topics that were also transferred across from the old website? I am not sure how that Topic had its little dash omitted, but apparently Jan has corrected this anomaly! The 33a Simca-Cargo fourgon + 33an Simca Cargo Topic is fascinating with much discussion taking place on the 33AN and the contents of the box that should not be there. I highly recommend the reader check it out in due course. Now that we have that long-winded in introduction out of the way, I decided to create this new topic as my discussion centres entirely on the 33AN model, --33AN and 577 Simca Cargo fourgon 'Bailly' (1956-1960). Like Jan, I bought a boxed 33A Simca Cargo fourgon, actually two in the one lot through Invaluable from a well-known auction house in Melbourne, Victoria, one of which was packaged in the usual 33A box, the other in a 33AN box. I can only presume the model with the yellow back has always been in the 33AN box since leaving the factory and the orange back in the 33A box. Neither box has any paint rubbings in the interior.
I have something to say regarding these models, door handles, indented step plates, etc and this I intend doing within the 33a Simca-Cargo fourgon + 33an Simca Cargo topic. To the reason for this Post! Recently I won an unboxed 33AN Simca Cargo BAILLY that once belonged to a well-known Dinky Toys collector, the late John Kinchen.
As one can see with the above, the model is not mint having a number of nasty chips on both sides, a large blemish on the van roof, and other smaller chips in various places. Overall, the model is still in quite sound condition. These models do not come up at auction or sale very often these days, a total of 39 through Vectis Auctions since April 2001. Of these 23 came boxed with 3 of these in 33A boxes. Now comes the Big Question. Does this model deserve to be the new occupant of the 33AN box, leaving the current occupant unboxed or leave things as they are? The current occupant is close to mint except for a bad scuff mark on the leading edge of the box van roof, probably caused by careless removal or insertion of the model into the box. Larger images are included at the end of this Post. I welcome any and all comments, as the final result may help other collectors in a similar quandary. Bruce (150) 20160924/983/1243

Hi Bruce, as a comment my 33A and 33AN here. When I acquired the 33A seven years ago it came with the 33AN box. The yellow 33AN Bailly removal van is in my possession for 45 years already, but the box has not survived the numerous unpacking and packing after play. As it happened it was only a few months after buying the 33A that an empty 33A box was offered on eBay. I managed to buy it and the subsequent swap was obvious! Kind regards, Jan

I have never known why on the yellow boxes the reference number is usually printed on a black oval and some time on a red one. See Jan's picture above.
