14 Triporteur Carrier-Tricycle (1935-1952) was created by dinkyfan
Just arrived today....a new model, and one I have been wanting for some time, the Tri-Porteur, #14. Some quick checking showed that this was introduced in 1935, discontinued during the war, then re-introduced right after the war, and made through 1952 before being discontinued. It was made in a variety of colores, both pre and post war. Earlier models has white Dunlop tires, and starting around 1950 they came with the familiar black 'm' tires, which mine has. The Dinky Toys Encyclopedia says the scale is 1:40, meaning this is quite a bit larger than the automobiles produced at the same time. A common problem with this model is the hinged lid coming detached from the box beneath it. It is held in place by only two, tiny pins, each protruding into the side of the box. The pins appear to be no more than about 1/3 the diameter of an axle, so they can break or dislodge very easily. I can imagine only light playing with this model would result in the lid disappearing! The French factory did a nice job in painting this, as the drivers pants and shoes are painted a contrasting color to his blouse or shirt. Hands and face are flesh painted, with some rudimentary effort made to highlight cheeks and lips on the driver. All in all, a delightful little model, from a bygone era, but so typical of Dinky to make a model of it. Regards, Terry

I have never seen any photos posted before purporting to be the original prototype for the Triporteur, even in Jacques Encyclopedia.I am not sure whether that confirms a low interest level in this little antiquated model,or just not much info to be found.I spent the better part of a day recently, with a renewed effort to tryand find somethingand I was finally rewarded with a couple of photos that clearly show a close relative to our French Dinky Triporteur. Most of these appear to have originatedand been used primarily in France,so I was not able to actually read much history,or even who made them ( I do not read or write French). They seem to have been created in the 1930 ' sor earlier, primarily to make small deliveries in the city, and it would appear they were pretty well suited for that, until the advent of small delivery vans.Below are the two photos I was able to find : Best regards,Terry

Photo by courtesy of Jan Werner Terry,In May 2006 there has been a Dinky Club (later TMT) meeting a few miles north of Amsterdam in a nice sea harbour on the Inselmeer. On the next day our very kind host a dinky collectorand excellent tourists guide organised a tour of Amsterdam during which along one of the many canals we discoveredand tested a three wheel delivery van similar to the French Dinky Toys ref.14 (see photo above). These vehicles were very popular in France in the 30 ' s,40 ' sand 50 ' sand in Italy for a much longer time with the Piagio (Vespa) models. The piagio is probably still made in Indiaand other Far East countries.Your first photo seem to show a Peugeot, several of which have been preservedand restored.See https: / /
