Hi Dave, Great and interesting pair. To be honest I think it's a testament to Meccano's QC (especially on piecework!)that we don't see that many of these, compared to the millions of models produced, compared to other manufacturers Dinky's with major faults escaping the factory seem very scarce. Maybe a few more did get out there, but were returned by the shops that wouldn't sell them? Be interesting to see if anyone else has some? Chris Warr.

There is a 'Factory Errors' thread already, Dave! Difficult to manage such a structureless forum like this ... Kind regards, Jan

Here are a few flawed items from Dinky that I have acquired over the years. The first one is the Austin Taxi in the two-tone version. And it has absolutely lovely paint on it, with nary a flaw, but notice that the left front fender area, just left of the radiator has a pretty severe casting flaw. It almost looks like the molten metal did not fully fill or harden correctly. But it somehow went through QC and was then painted....so it was missed twice...after casting and after painting! The other one is not a casting flaw, but a damaged area none the less. This is the Studebaker Golden Hawk, and I purchased this one directly from H. Hudson Dobson around 1959 or so. The right rear tail fin, right at the tip, is bent and cracked. I am guessing that it was dropped, possibly before being put into its box. I notice it as soon as I opened the box the first time, so I know I did not do it. But another missed QC item!Lastly is the French Dinky Chrysler convertible. This one arrive with a cracked and small missing portion of the plastic windscreen, on the left side. A friend had purchased this and complained about it and was given another.....so he gave me this one...... Terry

Hi Jan The search facility on this site only allows you to go back 12 months and there is nothing in that time frame for Factory Errors. Dave

Hi Jacques, most (obvious) factory flaws are often mint. If the client didn't want it, or returned it to the shop, it was never played with anymore. After that it was stored in the back and a matter of just waiting a very long time for a foolish collector, who likes unusual things. Regards, Jan
