A new thread to the 1st performance of the RCMP Patrol Car Ford Fairlane, issued 1962-1966. It has an RCMP logo on the white side of the front doors, a flasher beacon on the roof, a radio aerial on the left rear and 2 police men in uniform (Mounties) in front of the car. The cast of the car is equal to 148 Ford Fairlane. It was delivered in the colour dark blue and light blue. I love this police car very much because the 2 mounties in the front of the car, and ... it was my job. Dinky Toys 264 R.C.M.P. Patrol Car Ford Fairlane. Logo RCMP on front doors of the Patrol Car. Logo Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Meccano Magazine UK March 1962. The uniform of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The real Patrol Car of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Ford Fordor as RCMP Patrol Car. The more modern Ford Crown Victoria as RCMP Patrol Car. I could not find a picture of a real RCMP Ford Fairlane Patrol Car of those days. Thereafter came the 2nd performance of the RCMP Patrol Car Cadillac from 1966-1968. The cast of that car was equal to 147 Cadillac 62 with the same features as the 264 Ford Fairlane. Jan, Interesting post! I read 'King of the Royal Mounted' as a child and was very happy when the Ford turned up as an R.C.M.P car although King never had a car, he rode his horse. I also found this 1961 Ford Meteor. Ragnar

A delightful post on one of my favourite Dinky Toys ever! Either this or the USA Police equivalent would have to be in my top ten. Purchasing this model new as a child, however, I was frustrated about Meccano Ltd.'s choice of a two-door sedan to model, however, since every police car I had seen had four doors. To this day, I don't understand why they modelled a two-door Fairlane when they could just as easily have modelled a four-door one. Of course, this model's eventual Cadillac replacement was even worse. I can't say for sure that a Cadillac hardtop was never used by any police force, but considering the cost of these vehicles, it seems extremely unlikely. As for the RCMP, I located some pictures of earlier and later Fords that indeed were two-doors. Apparently these cars were used for 'traffic enforcement,' in which it was unlikely that a 'perp' would have to be fitted into the back seat.

A very pleasing model in my collection too. I have a question - was the RCMP Ford version ever fitted with the smaller diameter wheels in the same way that it's USA cousin (black and white 258) and the awful Cadillac was?

I am relatively insensitive to variants (and a good thing too, since I can't afford to collect them all), but I can say that my RCMP Ford, RCMP Cadillac, USA Ford, and USA Cadillac all have the same size wheels -- 'smaller diameter,' presumably. Despite its inaccuracy, the Cadillacs wouldn't have been that bad if they hadn't changed the doors from paint/decals to stickers -- a very unpleasant economy. That makes me wonder if there were any Cadillacs that had the paint/decals, or if they made the change at the time they switched to the new casting?

Thanks all for your very welcome comments. I found these pictures of a DT 264 RCMP Patrol Car Cadillac. It looks like these still have a paint RCMP logo instead of a decal. 17-5-2017 Jan Oldenhuis

Jan -- On the Cadillac (and also the later RCMP Parisienne) the white portion of the door as well as the RCMP logo are both provided by a sticker. I wish they had not devised this way of cheapening the product, but there you have it!

Johnny-Thank you for your addition. I have too little background knowledge of Dinky Toys about these kinds of questions. So I'm very happy with your explanation. it's now very clear to me. Jan Oldenhuis

Jan Sticking with Ford Fairlanes although not with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, here are some more images, although taken South of the Border! The black and white image is from 'The Twilight Zone'. The colour image unfortunately is of a 4-door sedan. Not quite certain how the Mounties put their man in the back seat if the need arose while on highway duties without a sealed barrier between the front and back seats! Bruce-Many thanks for your nice pictures. Hard to find pictures of the Ford Fairlane Patrol Car. Indeed, a 2 door car is very inconvenient to put a person on the back seat....But,...on the other hand, there's one advantage...it's impossible with a 2-door car to escape from the back seat, because you want to hold your man To speak with the famous Dutch football player Johan Cruijff: 'Every disadvantage has its advantage'. 18-5-2017 Jan Oldenhuis

Jacques, sorry for the confusion. When i referenced 'new casting' earlier, i was referring to the police car being changed from the Fairlane to the Cadillac. i am unaware of any variations on the Cadillac itself!
