Hi, I have only just joined but have been collecting Dinkies for years. I caught the Foden bug about 3 years ago and now have about 85 in my collection with 38 original. I havecollected a number of books during this period and try to read anything to do with Fodens.I have seen a new seller on E-bay who has started to sell Fodens during the last 3 months. I have hada few reservations about some of the listings and I did ask as to how the listing could support with evidence that an 'original ULTRA RARE' blue chassis and cabwith amid green 502 flat body, black block type tyres and large nut to secure the body, dated about 1954.The answer to my question was evasive andnot forthcoming. My next question was ignored. I did not bid on the lot. I cannot find any reference to this combination of colours in any of my text books. Have I missed an 'ultra rare' as it was listed? I think, it was a blue MK2. Foden 503/903 fitted with a mid green Mk2. 502/902 flat body. Your thoughts on this matter would be:- Regards, Chris Instance. 578.

Chris---I am surely not a Foden expert.....just have a small collection of the standard colors, but most of us have heard to be aware of so-called rare colors. There are many rare color variations, but it takes an expert or someone with intimate knowledge of those to make a judgement. The problem, of course, is that the models are easily taken apart and switched around. I think you were smart to not be tempted. We have a real Foden expert here, Rob from the Netherlands, and maybe he will weigh in. And welcome to the DTCA......we always like to see pictures, so please let us know about your collection! Best regards, Terry

Hi Chris, and welcome to the group! I too am a Foden collector, and can only repeat Terry's observation regarding the ease with which early components can be switched around to create a spurious 'super-rare' version. In a similar vein, there is currently a 430 Commer Breakdown lorry for sale in pale yellow/blue plastic hubs/windows with the light grey rear body - surely a combination of Commer Convertible Articulated tractor unit and the body from a late red/grey 430? At a price approaching 300 I would be inclined to stay away! Kevin.
