988 ABC TV Transmitter Van (1962-69)

Hello everybody . I just got this one ! Can somebody tell me if the metallic aerial is original ? On the extending mast BBC vehicle it is in plastic. Perhaps both exist !

Hi Richard, I'm pretty sure the original was metal, I need to dig mine out and check, I don't have a BBC mast vehicle, but I was surprised that the dish on those was plastic, as I had always assumed it was metal. Chris Warr.

Hi Richard, your metal dish is definitely a replacement, like unfortunately still quite a few more replacements for plastic parts are made in metal only. Here it is, job no. 20016, the assembly of this plastic part. So, it must be plastic, original or not. The part is shared both by the BBC TV Extending Mast Vehicle and the ABC TV Transmitter Van. I don't know if it is available in plastic in the mean time, you might try some addresses. Some time ago I was happy to find a plastic replacement for the antenna on the Roving Eye Vehicle. Before is was also available in metal only. Our cat destroyed it by chewing on it exactly fifty years ago. The difference is invisible, it looks really good. Kind regards, Jan
