Thank you Dave for your efforts in helping me. The seller on e-bay answered me on the item quality but did not send me a copy of the leaflet ! He was probably suspicious !! in fact, he was right !

Hi, From my memory the principle for replacing the string is the same for both the Extending Mast Vehicle and also the Turntable Fire Escape. And yes I used to have both and both had small printed sheets with instructions that as I remember were not very helpful. So I will try to explain. The cord is best threaded around the two pullies bottom (with handle and the top but in both cases with the extension removed from position. THe best way of keeping the tension is to tie the knot in position either at the bottom or top roller. Reef knot is best but you might need assistance with a finger to maintain the tension as you tie. Once tied the extension can be dropped inot position and then you will see a hook or double hook section in the underside of the extension. Vary carefully lift the cord and latch it over this hook - sometime I managed to hook both each time of course this increases the tension. With the loops connected this of course will raise or lower the extension section when wound. I always used sewing cord but it is probably possible to used nylon twine or fishing line? Hope this helps Philip
