A very attractive real-life car, but unfortunately not captured very well by Dinky, in my opinion. The upper half of the car seems too tall in relation to the lower half, ruining the proportions of the car.The wheels are also too far inboard, probably to allow for the steering action. I remember being really disappointed when this model came out - a factory owner in my town had a real one, which made a very strong impression on me as a youngster. Nevertheless, I have the civilian version, plus the USA and RCMP Police versions in my collection.

Kevin. Indeed, the front wheels of the 147 Cadillac 62 are very far inwards compared to model 148 Ford Fairlane. I don't understand why this was done that way, because model 148 was issued earlier (January 1962) and model 147 only afterwards in October 1962. It looks like they have the same suspension with the same possibilities. So, why these differences? It seems to me that there is enough room to widen the track width of the 147 a little more. It looks like that when the track width are some widen the wheels will still stay free inside the fender and bumper when turn them out or in. I even think it will go smoother than. Measurement shows the following: 147 Cadillac width outside front wheels: 30 mm; width outside rear wheels: 30-31 mm. Width of the baseplate between the front wheels = 20 mm 148 Ford Fairlane - width outside front wheels: 34-35 mm; width outside rear wheels: 35-36 mm. Width of the baseplate between the front wheels = 21 mm See pictures of the comparison of the bottom of both models on which the difference in width of the front wheels is clear to see.What I also had not noticed before is that the red-yellow end-flap box has been issued in 2 versions; pictured with black tires and with white tires. This also corresponds to reality. Model 147 was first issued with black tires and then with white tires. It is very special that Meccano Liverpool has adjusted the box to this change, because many boxes have been issued with for instance wrong colors of the model, without correction.Visipack export boxes have also been issued in yellow and gold. Regarding the Dinky 147 replica of the 1961 Cadillac Series 62 Sedan, I don't mean to 'pile on' regarding how this model was crafted, but I have my own 'complaints' about the casting to offer. If you examine the rear tailfin, it appears that the start of the fin on the rear doors was molded taller than the point where the fin continues on the rear fender. In other words, instead of a smooth incline, you have a step down where the fender fin starts resulting in the fin appearing to be out of alignment. Also, what scale is this model? On an over-all basis, the Dinky 147 Cadillac 62 appears to be rather under-sized when compared to comperable automobiles in the Dinky series (at least to me). And I agree that the 'greenhouse' appears to sit rather too tall and out of proportion to the model's body. I am not a fan of the colors used by Dinky to paint this model. I suppose the 'polychromatic' paint was intended to convey a rather 'rich' look to this luxury car, but the choice of colors is off. It was painted polychromatic green and another version in blue. In my opinion, the shades are just too close and don't stand out distinctively from each other. Offering this model in silver or in white would have made the model stand out. I do prefer the white interior over the red. I have only seen the white interior with green exterior paint; does anyone have an example in blue with white interior? One other thing, the 1963 Dinky catalog mistakenly illustrates Dinky 147 as a 1962 Cadillac 62; Dinky modelled the 1961 Cadillac 62 as Dinky 147. Finally, I also agree that the model's wheel track is too narrow on this casting. In summary, whoever oversaw the addition of this model to the Dinky product line unfortunately 'botched' the assignment. Dinky should have done much better with adding a 1960s era Cadillac to the series!

Since the actual car is 5639mm in length, the Dinky appears to be approximately 1/50th scale. An odd choice for what ought to have been an impressve model. I never noticed the issue of the tailfin being higher on the rear door than where it continues on the rear fender. But now that you have metioned it, I can't unsee it! All in all, an unfortunate model, which also -- as has been said elsewhere -- was a spectacularly unrealistic choice to be turned into a police car.
