Jos Heraud pointed me at this grey Oldsmobile, which sold on eBay for GBP 19.99 recently. It seems to be a (at least partial) repaint, but the most interesting feature is the base plate, possibly made from some Hornby train sheet metal left overs. Seen more of these? Kind regards, Jan

Hello Jan That is a very interesting observation Jose has made. The Hornby locomotive is actually an O Gauge Streamlined Locomotive manufactured between 1936 and 1941, sold as a set or individually as shown with the image below, taken from the 1939-1940 Toys of Quality from Meccano Land catalogue. It was based on the 'Silver' class locomotives marking the Silver Jubilee of King George V in 1935, 'Silver Link', 'Silver Fox, etc. This is not the first time such an interesting tinplate base plate has turned up. I sold a 39 series sedan years ago that had a set of windows on the inside of the base plate. Unfortunately, I did not have a camera capable of close-up photography at the time nor did I have the foresight to keep it. The windows were blue and the surrounding a deep red. I deeply regret selling that car, that is for sure. Kind regards Bruce H. (150) 20161127/1046/2154

Here is my violet blue Oldsmobile; I always thought this was a very striking color, and not seen too often in the Dinky range. Best regards, Terry

A picture of the grey and violet blue examples below. Both have the round front support pillars, as discussed on talkmodeltoys: dead link There, the grey one (with oval pillars) in my post is the one replaced by the example shown here. The quality difference is obvious. Kind regards, Jan
