It will be interesting to see if any othes surface.....that would clinch this explanation. In reality, this could be a quite rare variation, with very few made before production was shut down for the duration of the war. Regards, Terry

I believe I found one currently for sale on eBay: Silver MG RECORD CAR base plate, round smooth rivets, prewar hubs, white flashes too. After mine (see above), this is the second model with such specs I have seen so far. So it seems to confirm Terry's and my assumption that - after the first model with MG MAGNETTE base plate - there was a second pre-war issue with MG Record Car base plate before production shut down for the duration of the war. Any opinions on this one?

The proof From left: initital prewar base plate MG Magnette, silver lacquered, with smooth rivets, thin axles, smooth hubs second type prewar base plate MG Record Car, golden-brown lacquered, smooth rivets, thin axles, smooth hubs identical second prewar base plate MG Record Car, golden-brown lacquered, smooth rivets, thin axles, smooth hubs postwar base plate MG Record Car, black lacquered, dimpled rivets, thick axles, ridged hubs This definitely confirms the existence of a late prewar base plate MG Record Car, golden-brown lacquered. Would you agree, Terry? Best regards from Thailand Walter

Vectis sold some MGs with the following descriptions : Thin axles, smooth black hubs, black smooth tyres, dark green base plate, marking ? Thick axles, black ridged hubs, smooth black tyres, tin plated base plate, marking M.G. RECORD CAR Thick axles, chrome ? hubs, smooth black tyres, black enamelled base plate, marking M.G. RECORD CAR These variations are most peculiar, can anyone confirm that they have been made by Meccano ? Thanks and regards Jacques

Question for you experts. Prewar the 23 Gardner's MG Record car model was sold and purchased in an individual box. Post war the last price list it appears to be included in, was September 1948, not include in my next list of April 1949., there could be some lists I have not seen. My question how was it sold post war, was it individually boxed as per prewar or in a type 2, (brown cardboard) trade box of 6 like the other models sold soon after the war.. David
