24f Sportsmans Coupe' (1934-40)

24f Sportsmans Coupe (1934-40) was created by hoort
Recently I bought a 24F Sportman Coupe with a doomed roofline. According to my (catalogue) information this version should have the open chassis without the spare wheel. Mine has the criss-cross chassis with the spare wheel. In the picture the normal version which I bought some years ago is alongside to see the difference in the roof line. Does anyone have other information on this variation? Kind regards, Rob

Dear Rob, In five years you might have had an answer to your question, but if not... Your cream/blue variant has a second type French body. Check the inside you'll see thatthe reinforcements are clearly different from the British ones, (of course the hinges are different too). As this version came after the launch of the 36 series, it must have a third type grille. I don't quiet see it one your picture. All the best Erwan

Welcome Erwan and thanks for the interesting information. The French version does have a more realistic profile, reminiscent of a 1934 Ford 3-window coupe, and I think I'd like one.

Hello, thank you, The boot is more rounded also, the French issue can be found quiet easily with a little patience and of course a bit of money (post war issues are cheaper), but the cream and blue French/British variant for which I don't know other colour scheme is very scarce. I never saw any 24f without spare-wheel, if anyone would have a pic, I'd be happy to see it.

Hello Erwan, Thank you very much for your reaction and information. I checked my models and indeed the cream one has more reinforcements inside the body casting along the boot and the roof. Both models mention 'made in england' on the 2nd type baseplate. Both models have the 2nd type grille without the over-riders. So still a bit of a mystery remains. Which makes our hobby always interesting! Kind regards, Rob

Hi Rob, Thank you for your reply, it's most interesting as I never saw any copy of a French/British coupling with a first type grille, but only second or French ones. Congratulations for owning such beautiful models.

There must be an easy way to add pictures but I didn't find it yet... Here's my copy of the 24f https://servimg.com/view/20010179/51

Thank You Jan, I'll try but perhaps the size of the files was still too large. Indded, a 1935 copy with all early features but the base which is a type 2. Having never seen any 30 series with Tootsie type hubs, I assume they have been deleted that year.

Hi Erwin, as soon as you have logged in you can add a new comment. In the frame below the 'Add new comment' frame there is the 'Forum images' frame with a button for choosing new (image) files. Press that one and you can go to the desired image file on your computer and open it. You will see no picture yet, just the file name of the chosen image. Then press the upload button and the picture will be uploaded and added to you comment. You can optionally give it a title by filling out the little 'Title' frame. If you wish you can continue by subsequently adding more pictures. When you have finished uploading pictures this way, press the 'Save' or 'Preview' button. You will not see the picture(s) before you have pressed one of these. Using this procedure the pictures will show up below the comment text of your post. It is my personal experience that reducing your original image file size to about 1200 x 750 or 800 pixels gives the best result. In the presentation of your post the picture(s) will show up in a modest size, but when clicking on them they appear in the size and quality that you uploaded. Good luck! Jan PS: A wonderful early pre-war model you show us in your post above!

Lovely model Erwan, with tootsie style hubs and in this condition very rare indeed! I especially like the rough seam in the upper middle of the body. Looks like Dinky Toys invested in (the use of) grinding tools later as the seam on my models is much more smooth. Kind regards, Rob

Yes Rob, It can be seen also on the two different castings of the 24c I'm about to upload on the forum.
