120 Jaguar E Type (1962-67)

Good morning everybody.I need help !Has somebody in his collection the E type Jaguar in light blue colour ? I would be very please if one of our member could post one or two photos of this model. I would like to know the colours of the steering wheel and the hard top ?Many thanksRichard

Hip hip hip hurray !!! I got the blue this morning ! I was waiting for since a long long time ! In about 10 years of activity on e-bay, it's the second time that I have seen one ! The steering wheel is missing but I will find one on a old red. Richard

Thats a beauty, which is indeed very hard to find. However, I seem to remember reading in one of the magazines that there are two different blue versions! If I remember correctly, one came in the card box, one in the visipack, and the shade of blue isnt the same.

Can somebody help me ? Is the steering weel with 2 or 3 branches ? I have both on 2 red jaguars and perphaps there is one which is not original ! Has somebody the same case ? Impatient to ear from you. Cheers

I've noticed a mix of 2 and 3 spoke steering wheels on several Dinkies, such as the Vauxhall Viva and Morris 1100, which are closed vehicles and so cannot be tampered with. Therefore your two red Jaguars could well both be original.

The family grows : I got this morning, the red Jaguar with the grey Hard-Top. It looks mint with a very good box. Kind regards Richard

This model deserves a little more attention. On March 15, 1961, the Jaguar E-Type was shown to the world press by Sir William Lyons at the restaurant 'Du Parc des Eaux Vives' in Geneva. Wikipedia: The Jaguar E-Type, or the Jaguar XK-E for the North American market, is a British sports car that was manufactured by Jaguar Cars Ltd between 1961 and 1974. Its combination of beauty, high performance, and competitive pricing established the model as an icon of the motoring world. The E-Type's claimed 150 mph (241 km/h) top speed, sub-7-second 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) acceleration, unitary construction, disk brakes, rack-and-pinion steering, and independent front and rear suspension distinguished the car and spurred industry-wide changes. The E-Type was based on Jaguar's D-type racing car, which had won the 24 Hours of Le Mans for three consecutive years beginning in 1955, and employed what was, for the early 1960s, a novel racing design principle, with a front subframe carrying the engine, front suspension and front bodywork bolted directly to the body tub. No ladder frame chassis, as was common at the time, was needed and as such the first cars weighed only 1315 kg (2900 lb). It is rumored that, on its release on 15 March 1961 Enzo Ferrari called it 'the most beautiful car ever made', but this statement is not fully confirmed. In 2004, Sports Car International magazine placed the E-Type at number one on their list of Top Sports Cars of the 1960s. In March 2008, the Jaguar E-Type ranked first in The Daily Telegraph online list of the world's '100 most beautiful cars' of all time. Outside automotive circles, the E-type has featured in the Diabolik comic series, Austin Powers films and the television series Mad Men. 1961 sales brochure Jaguar E type Most are well-known facts, but it's nice to mention them again here in this topic. DT 120 was introduced in Meccano Magazine of March 1962 and appeared with some new features: 4-wheel suspension with fingertip steering and interchangeable black plastic roof and cream plastic folded hood. It was extensively described by the Toyman in MM's Dinky Toys News. As usual, the model was also advertised in colour on the back page of MM. What is special is that the base of the model was also depicted in the description of the Toyman to show the special feature of the fingertip control. it's not quite a race car yet, but it is one of the most beautiful sports cars that Meccano Liverpool has made. Because I like this model as the most beautiful sports car, I have also collected Jaguar E type models from other manufacturers, of which I am attaching photos. The nice thing about this collection is that the models in pairs also differ in scale from large to small. From right to left: Joal 100 with Tekno 926; Corgi 307 with Dinky Toys 120; Matchbox 32 with Mini Dinky 11. Especially the Joal and Tekno models with open doors, hood and trunk lid are beauties. it's also said that the producers of the James Bond films wanted 007 to drive an E Type in Goldfinger, but Jaguar declined a request to supply any cars - Aston Martin saw an opportunity, and the rest is history.
