A small item, so a small contribution, with some images. Other than the pre-war version (no. 12a, with oval sign on top and GR symbol) this 1954 introduced G.P.O. Pillar Box is a new casting, without sign on top and bears the new EIIR lettering plus crown, cast in relief and picked out in yellow. Meccano Magazine of July 1954 advertised it together with the no. 674 Austin Champ. It was sold from little green half-a-dozen trade boxes only. If found outside this packaging they are rarely 100% mint, always having lost some minor chips from protruding parts. Strangely, it was not included in the post-war no. 299 Gift Set Post Office Services.

Good to see the little Pillar Box and one in such nice condition. Mine displays the usual few nicks, and resides wrapped inside my 299 set, its natural home as you suggest!
