Hi all, Anybody here got a Maroon Vanguard? My Holy Grail as far as post war goes, but I've seen a few I didn't trust, which baseplate / bootlid / etc variation is correct for the maroon? Chris Warr.

Be patient, it will certainly be issued by Atlas in that rare colour and you will be able to get one for a few quids. L O L

Hi Terry, it's been on there for at least 6, maybe 12 months, way too rich for my budget, though it does look real. Chris Warr.

Jan Further to your post 10 months and three weeks ago, here is the Standard Vanguard on display at the Coventry Transport Museum which I visited in May 2011, leaving my wife and sister-in-law in the local Primark Store. I had a far more interesting time than looking around for clothes! I could not tell if the Vanguard was the first version with the rear axle clip or not!!
And here is one of mine - the real thing, Dinky that is, with a very similar colour, so Meccano chose wisely! Bruce

There is a picture of the light green Vanguard on the Dinky Toys Encyclopaedia since January 23, 2013 but I do not have a date for this variation.

A curious feature of this model is that it was the only one of the post-war British saloon cars to be referred to only by its model name on the baseplate - 'Vanguard' rather than 'Standard Vanguard'. An opposite precedent had been set by 40a and 40b where only the makers name 'Riley' and 'Triumph' appeared, to be followed by 40d,f,g etc. (but no 40c) and subsequent renumberings and new additions all showing the full name of the car in question, i.e. Morris Oxford, Austin Devon and so on. Another example of the oddities that make Dinky collecting so fascinating.
