No they haven't Jacques. What you see here is a cupola which was meant primarily for observation, no ambulance would have a machine gun ring. The Dinky was based on the Fordson FV13302, see below:
The Ambulance was a Fordson Thames E3 with a Spurling body. As can be seen the cupola only has a light duty ring to retain the canvas cover. The Fordson Thames was used extensively by the Forces in a large variety of different versions: 3-ton Cargo, Stores Wagon, Ambulance, Barrage Baloon Winch, Signals Truck etc. Dave

Jacques In addition to the fine reply from David, mounting a machine-gun on an ambulance would be in contravention of the Geneva Convention. On the ambulance it was simply a hatch. Bruce

Thank you David and Bruce for your answears. I did not know about these hatches, are they emergency exits ? I cant see much use for an observation place, the view is limited to the front and sides. My question was raised because I could not magine an ambulance with a machine gun. I am sorry for the delay for answearing but there s so much coming in at the moment taht I cant cope.

Yes Dave but that is the only picture that I could find of a Fordson E3.

As I said previously Jacques the primary use for the cupola was OBSERVATION. Especially when vehicle were in a large convoy, these used to occur regularly until the mid 1960s when conscription ceased and the army reduced in size. Dave

Al The title for this model should be 626 MILITARY AMBULANCE. My dates also do not agree, as I have 1956 - 1965. (My last reference for the 626 was in the February 1965 agent Order Form, with a retail price of 6/11. Further agent Order Forms for later months must also show the presence of the 626 as the model is included in the August 1965 catalogue.) Kind regards Bruce (150) 20 December 2015

I have had these two Dinky 626 Military Ambulances for a long time but only recently acquired the Indian Nicky Toys version. It uses the same casting as the Dinky version but has rather ugly plastic wheels which have a rim on the inner side. The paint is much darker than the Dinky version
and some of the white paint around the red crosses is not in register. It has windows but no driver.
