The story behind the Dinky Toys Chevrolet El Camino The story of the Chevrolet El Camino has its origins when Ford launched its 1957 Ford Ranchero in December 1956, three months after the traditional September model year start-up. The Ranchero was the first postwar American vehicle of its type adapted from a popular sedan that was in production. It combined the sleek looks of a sedan with the utility of a light duty pickup truck.

Hi Bruce, good to see your post here. I see you seem to have lost some image surface (cropped), which I experienced in my recent post too. Dave Kaun, I succeeded uploading pictures in a new topic post, but how to add a picture in the comment box and what is the reason for the unwanted cropping? And, Bruce, did you receive an automatic email notification? Kind regards, Jan

Jacques I have received emails for this Thread as I had ticked the box for the 449 as one that I wanted to receive emails. I went through the whole list that took me 15 minutes, and that was the start of my problem with registering! However, I have received multiple emails from Jan's post, and only two from you with Jan's email repeating the first two lines of his post. This has been typed v e r y slowly to prevent errors!! Cheers Bruce

Jan Sorry for my reply not being immediately under your post. I clicked on the link on the email, and that brought me to the end of the posts so started typing (s l o w l y! ! ) I now see that one's reply goes immediately after the post being answered, unlike the old site - big improvement. I have spelt out all the problems I have encountered in my post below. Yes, I did receive an email notification - in fact quite a few!! Kind regards Bruce

Bruce--Nice article on the El Camino, and so glad that you were finally able to log on and access the site. I think we are all experiencing new things and how they work....or don't work! The picture cropping for sure needs to be fixed. I do not have your problem typing and losing letters......mine seem to work ok...maybe you are just that much faster! Another annoying issue is having to repeat the subject matter in the line above....it should be the same as the existing topic.....if you leave it blank, it then uses the first few words of your post as the subject!! I quite agree with your comments Terry. Actually, the story is only about one-tenth done and I will leave it thus until the pictures and copy/pasting from a previously written document can be resolved. The other alternative is to do a new post with text and one or more pictures at a time although I much preferred the old site for this type of long and detailed post, unless this type of post that I am used to should become a thing of the past and for the posts to concentrate on chit-chat!Bruce I selected a larger font which appears here but when saved it reverts to its original size. Another issue for Dave K.?

Can anyone tell me if all these posts including my first one is under 449 Chevrolet El Camino Pick-up Truck? There seems to be nothing on this page that confirms this as I selected this Thread for my first post? Or is it a Thread that is somewhere else? Bruce (150) #706 Just answering my own question - although no heading is on this page according to Active Topics, all this stuff is in fact within the 449 Chevie Thread!! Something to incorporate on the actual page to ensure one is in the right place, especially for geriatrics like me!

Hello Gentlemen, I don't seem to have a problem with typing. It keep up to me easily and I am an experienced typist. We all have a learning curve with this Forum. You will notice there are a bunch of images/sites/default/files/pictures/picture-82-1405407727.jpg[/img]editing tools at the top of the form you are typing into. I have referenced a picture of Jan under the editing tools above. Click on it to see. One thing you should do is prepare your text ahead of time in a word processor and copy then click on the little clipboard symbol at the top. Choose the middle one as it will paste your prepared text into the frame without any background stuff. Paste into that window and it removes the junk behind the scenes in word processor software. Use the right hand clipboard if you use Word. Once you have it in the window you can emphasize parts as I have done above. There is no colour pallette in the tools but I will check to see if one can be added. Regarding the picture cropping, I will look into that when I have an opportunity. If we are all patient and work together we can make this Forum as good as the old one and maybe even better.

Dave---Thanks for clarifying a few things for us. A couple of other areas not addressed yet, so please respond when you can: (1). Adding text before or after, or between pictures? Can it be done and how? (2). Every post or reply asks you to fill in the subject line....even if there is already a subject, even when replying to one. If left blank, then the program inserts a few of the opening words in the subject line, which makes little sense and will only confuse. Is there a way to have the subject default to the present one unless it needs to be changed? One other area that has been noted is that navigating on the site seems to be slow, as in from logging on, then going to the forum.....will that improve in the future? Thanks for your help!Regards, Terry

Many thanks Dave for your guidance. I am about to test the cut and paste from Word onto the site. I had been using the little icon that pops up when right-mouse clicking to paste. No wonder! I too am a typist going back many years to my work in Papua New Guinea when I had to type (and correct where need be with white-out) my work-related correspondence that amounted to well over 800 letters and memos a year. I used to also type direct into the old site without any problems, but this site, well, it must have its teething problems, or there is a problem with the sensitivity of my keyboard that can cause issues. I am in agreement with what Terry has written as the question of adding photographs and text in a continuous process is a problem. The final problem is not having the Thread at the top of the page denoting where one is. It could lead to a post on an incorrect Thread. Many thanks for all the work you have done on behalf of us all, including those who simply visit the site. Bruce

Dave K I think you will have to correct the title for this Thread, 449 Chevrolet El Camino Pick-up Truck, 1961-1969. This model never made it to the 1969 catalogue dated 1 May 1969. It certainly was not included in the Dealer Order Form dated 25 July to 11 August 1969. In fact, the model was not included in the December 1968 Dealer Order Form. The model's last appearance in an Order Form available to me was dated June 1968, which also notified the closure of the factory for the summer holidays between 19 July and 5 August 1969. With all that the dates for the 449 should be 1961 - 1968. Bruce (150) #707 11 July 2015
